Reconditioned or registered: which is better value?

What you get with each, and what to check.

Reconditioned cars

Imported from Japan and not yet registered in Sri Lanka. You’ll be the first local owner.

  • Usually lower mileage and an auction sheet to check
  • Higher price than a similar registered car
  • Check the auction sheet and that the chassis number matches

Registered cars

Already used in Sri Lanka, with at least one local owner.

  • Lower price for the same model and year
  • Ask for service records and the number of previous owners
  • Check the CR book and whether the car is still under lease

Our advice

A well-kept registered car with service records is often better value than a recon at the top of your budget. Whatever you choose, have a trusted mechanic look at it before you pay.
